Stillwater, Okla., April 6, 2009 – The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum is proud to announce opera singer Kevin Short will perform a benefit concert at the OSU Seretean Center Concert Hall in Stillwater on April 17. Proceeds from the concert benefit the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum’s Educational Outreach Program and the current exhibit “Glory Beyond the Sport: Wrestling and the Military.”

“This concert will be an excellent opportunity for the public to hear one of the best baritone singing voices in the world, while supporting the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum,” said Lee Roy Smith, executive director of the organization.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults. Tickets can be purchased through the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum at (405) 377-5243 or online at www.wrestlinghalloffame.org.

A Washington, D.C., native, Short was inducted to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004 as an Outstanding American. The Hall of Outstanding Americans demonstrates wrestling’s pride in those who have used the disciplines of the sport to launch notable careers in other walks of life.

A three-time district wrestling champion in high school, he also was active in theater and music. While he accepted an offer to wrestle for Morgan State University, the rigors of pursuing two disciplines led him to focus solely on music.

Short graduated from the Juilliard School of Music in 1989. Since his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1991, he has performed more than 125 times at the Met. His other performance locations include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Center, as well as venues in Europe and Asia.

He has performed with many of the world's finest orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Boston Symphony. In a worldwide search, Short was selected as a soloist to perform with an orchestra of all stars at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

“We are proud to bring Kevin Short to the city of Stillwater,” Smith said. “By collaborating with the OSU music department, we are able to provide the public world-class entertainment right here close to home.”
