2008 Dave Schultz High School Excellence winners announced for 49 states

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum has selected its 2008 state and regional winners of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. Forty-nine seniors from those states that sponsor high school state wrestling championships have been chosen for the honor.

The High School Excellence Award is named in honor of Olympic and World Champion Dave Schultz. Each award recipient is evaluated on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, character, citizenship, and community service.

Jim Koch wins Collegiate Wrestling Trivia Contest

Stillwater, Okla. – Prior to the 2008 NCAA National Championships, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame hosted the “Collegiate Wrestling Trivia Challenge”. Wrestling historian, Jay Hammond created the 25-question test and it was based on 50 years of African American Wrestling Excellence.

In Memory - Distinguished Member Jay Thomas "Tommy" Evans






STILLWATER, OK -- Memorial services for Jay Thomas (Tommy) Evans of Norman will be held Tuesday, March 25, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Evans died Tuesday, March 18, after a lengthy illness. Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman is handling the services. NWHOF is preparing a Military exhibit to debut in 2009






STILLWATER, OK - In an effort to recognize the contributions of wrestlers in service to the nation, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum is developing an exhibit spotlighting those champions and war heroes who have served in the U.S. military and highlighting the historical relationship between the sport and the armed services.

New exhibit to display during the Big 12 Wrestling Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum will extend its hours of operation for the Big 12 Wrestling Championships slated for March 8, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

“We will extend our hours so that fans who want to visit the Hall of Fame during the Big 12 Wrestling Championships will have that opportunity,” said Lee Roy Smith, Executive Director. “We will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 7, and from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, and by appointment only on Sunday.”   >>> more

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum is presenting a “Test Your Collegiate Wrestling Trivia Challenge” in conjunction with the 2008 NCAA Division I Championships slated for Mar. 20-22 in St. Louis, Missouri.

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first black NCAA Wrestling Champion, this year’s Trivia Challenge will focus on the contributions made by African Americans to the sport.   >>> more
