Jeffery A. Levitetz Outstanding American Class Of 2002 | | Perhaps Jeff Levitetz subscribes to the motto: "There is no such thing as too small 'nor is it impossible to dream too big."
As an example, while attending the University of Alabama, he created a world record, while raising $10,000 for cancer research in the process, by performing 10,000 consecutive sit-ups.
Also as a college student, he borrowed $300 and turned it into a very successful business venture called University Marketing.
Then in 1982, he took $15,000 of his personal money to start Purity Wholesale Grocers (PWG) which has become the leading promotional warehouse grocer in the United States and a multi-billion dollar business. All of this has placed him these past five years into the Forbes Top 150 privately-owned companies.
He is on the Board of Directors for many businesses and organizations, including his own JRC Children's Charities, and 17 additional business interests. He wears the title of "Chivas Regal Regional and National Entrepreneur of the year," bestowed on him in 1986, with a great deal of pride.
But through all of the extensive business operations in which he is involved and the recognition paid him, Jeff Levitetz still finds time for another love of his life -- the sport of wrestling.
It all started in 1974 when he wrestled at Deerfield High School in Illinois. Then it was on to collegiate competition at the University of Alabama. He founded the Boca Raton Wrestling Club, Inc., a non-profit youth wrestling program, and became a board member for USA Wrestling, co-chairing the National Wrestling Capital Campaign.
His Purity Wholesale Grocers is the USA Greco-Roman Team sponsor, and in 2004 he will serve as the team leader for the U.S. Greco-Roman Olympic Team.
