One of the most popular attractions of the Paul K. Scott Museum of Wrestling History is the Wall of Champions, the place where American wrestlers are enshrined for eternity based upon their performance on the mat against the best of their generation.
A "Wall" was perhaps all the Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum needed to list collegiate, international and club national champions when it was dedicated in 1976. The expansion of the Hall of Fame in 1999 greatly enhanced the ability to display and preserve the winners of these events for all time. Encircling the Dan Gable-John Smith International Room, the Wall of Champions currently comprises six walls covering NCAA, NJCAA, NAIA, FILA and USA Wrestling championships.
With the internet, we are able to bring this history to the world via the World Wide Web. In addition to the champions displayed physically on the Walls of Champions at the hall, we hope to provide additional information about the championships and the participants. For instance, results involving wrestlers who have been honored by the Hall of Fame contain links to that person's honoree page.
The Hall of Fame's displays and the web project would not have been possible without the help of William G. Brown, a Governor's Associate who provided the hall with NCAA Division I all-Americans dating back to the first collegiate wrestling event in 1928, and Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling, who provided complete championship information for all the USA Wrestling and FILA events presented here.
This site currently has results for 417 coaches and 5,100 wrestlers competing for 659 teams in 654 events. As with any project this ambitious, mistakes can be made.
